The final batch of Lagos State pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj exercise has safely returned home, marking the conclusion of what officials have unanimously described as an exceptionally successful and hitch-free operation.
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, lauded the efforts of the state government and the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims, expressing profound gratitude for the seamless exercise.
Speaking on the successful conclusion of the pilgrimage, Layode declared, “Alhamdulillah” (we give glory to God and will continue praising Him). “This year’s Hajj was very successful.”
He highlighted the widespread commendation from the public and the pilgrims themselves, who praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for the wonderful things done for each pilgrim from pre-departure to the Holy Land and upon return.

He emphasised the perfect record of returnees, attributing the success partly to the pilgrims’ adherence to guidelines.
“Every one of them was well-behaved and very good. They ensured that they were good ambassadors of our country, and this was reflected in each one of them.”
He noted that a robust health management strategy was the key factor in the 2025 smooth Hajj operation.
Layode particularly praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for making health screening compulsory for all pilgrims.
“This helped the doctors and nurses who went there. We were able to identify each pilgrim’s health challenges and manage them effectively. That’s why we returned with no casualties and no problems,” he said.
He stressed the importance of timely payments to avoid issues encountered in previous years, such as the unofficial closure of the Saudi Hajj commission’s portal, which affected visa issuance globally in 2023.
“We will inform our people that any intending pilgrim should quickly come forward with their payment so we don’t encounter issues,” he reiterated.
The Board Secretary, AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, hailed the 2025 Hajj as the best in terms of preparation, planning, and execution of all the rites.
He underscored the pilgrims’ happiness with the provisions, including food, drink, transportation, and accommodation, all of which were superb.
Ajomagberin also extended heartfelt thanks to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Hamzat for their unwavering support and spiritual guidance, noting the Governor’s direct engagement with pilgrims even in Arafat.
